SUMMER FUN

Memorial weekend and Labor Day weekend are two of my favorite holidays, though Labor Day is a sad one for me. The end of camping season.
The smell of a campfire burning pine or oak limbs, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and the breeze blowing across the lake takes me back to my youth when mom and dad took me camping. Of course, back then my parents didn't have the luxury of owning a camper with all of the modern conveniences of home.
Back then, we slept on a mattress thrown into the back of a pickup and cooked over an open fire. I've always said nothing tastes better than scrambled eggs with fire ashes mixed in. Or, fresh caught fish fried in melted Crisco oil.
But, I'm older now and the camper's queen size bed, stove, refrigerator, bathroom with a shower, air and heat, a couch and table on the slide-out is very nice.  My husband and I love sitting outside under the awning and watching the boats, skiers and other water crafts running up and down across the lake.
When camping, all of our worries seem to drift out over the lake. We leave refreshed and ready to take on another week.
